The Point

Becoming still is why I move.

Savasana is why I vinyasa.

If there aren’t moments of pause tucked within, around, and beside the movement – it becomes tricky to soak in the gifts. I become too wrapped up to see the sparkle shining right in front of me.

Stillness allows our bodies to absorb blessings.

Stillness allows for reflection, which gives way to meaning.

Savasana is the point of all the shapes in yoga. They prep us to simply lie on our backs and receive: our breath, our worth, our light, our impact we have both on ourselves and in this world.

Pause and breathe, so you can receive.

Magic in the Pause

Honored that this passage below is featured on the Prema Yoga website – highlighting the focus of the month: Stillness + Savasana.

//

Magic happens within the moments of stillness and the surrender of savasana. Something deceivingly simple as doing nothing, is tremendously rewarding – but can be difficult to practice.

It’s when I’m the busiest that I need to pause the most, yet it is in those times where it feels highly impossible. I become tricked into believing that I have no time for any space in my day to be quiet – to connect to my breath, drop into a down dog, journal, or meditate.

So I fill whatever space I have with as much as I can cram in – even though it feels so good to empty. I remind myself over and over, there is tremendous power in stillness – in lying down with palms facing upward absorbing and receiving.

In asking. In doing less. In playing more.

And when I forget, which I almost always do – I close my eyes and return to the breath so I can let the mind settle – and get quiet until I feel good again.

The Muck of Meditation

Posted | 4 comments

I’ve been doing a morning meditation (on and off) ever since college. It is now a non-negotiable part of my morning routine.

Connecting with myself – for even just 3 minutes – before the day begins in full force, has been so ridiculously healing, grounding, and powerful. Yet even though I have some moments of amazing clarity, peace, and calm, I still catch myself loosing my patience before I even roll up my yoga mat and wondering:

Is this working?

Am I doing it right?

This is stupid.

This is hard.

There are so many other things I could be doing right now.

I haven’t even stopped thinking for a millisecond…

And if I’m lucky I find my way back to the breath and I remember that these thoughts are all completely normal, expected, a part of the journey.

There is muck, but there is also SO much light. There are times where great ideas just float into my mind and there is an amazing sense of alignment, that wouldn’t have arrived without a pause. Then there are others filled with doubt and worry.

It is a practice that is getting juicer and deeper, and I continue to show up every morning because it just makes me a better human being.

I made a mini meditation for you here : A moment to connect to your vision and then let it go and rest in the breath. Which is especially great to do on the new moon.

Start where you are.

Commit to a practice, and expect the doubts to come tumbling in.

Receive them, just as you are, and keep going.

Let me know if you have any questions about meditation, or if I can help you in anyway as you begin or refreshen your practice.

In Between

Life happens in the snuggles, the walks, the grocery shopping, the train rides.  The stuff in between the graduations, the birthdays, the weddings, the babies, the vacations.  Life is in the hydrangeas turning pink, the quiet cups of coffee, the mouse that scurried past me on the sidewalk, kids playing in the park.

Life is in the small things, the things that fill every day.

I am keeping my eyes open to see how really special and magical they are.
