Baby Moon ….

Before the three of us become four we went on a little baby moon to reconnect. Luca stayed in Lancaster while we travelled to Hilton Head with a leisurely day in Savannah. It was blissful. Although, I did have to get over some initial, and then somewhat lingering, guilt in leaving Luca…luckily he was in good grandparent hands.

I got to finish a really good book – Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, do an 11 minute meditation (uninterrupted!) every morning , take an abundant amount of naps (like 4 in a day), have an affogato (espresso + ice cream = divine pick me up), dine with my Hilton Head family, and perhaps most importantly be completely and totally with my husband, which was so refreshing not having to split our attention for those collection of days.

And of course, in spending time away, I got some (seemingly good) ideas about Charm & Magic and the upgrades I’d like to make + new collection that is in the works and will hopefully be ready by next new moon.

Hope you are enjoying all the shifts and changes this fall season brings. Sometimes they can feel quite intense, like the wind tossing us around. If you are feeling wobbly, know that things will settle and pass, and surely bring upon a beautiful evolution of some kind.

A Dirty Little Word: REST

Posted | 0 comments

If you are anything at me you scoff at that 4 letter word – who has time to REST when you have things to create and accomplish?   When you have a continuous to do list that doesn’t end and countless errands to run.  A successful day for me looks action packed until bed time – and then I rest for my 8 hours.  But I am learning that doesn’t always cut it for this precious body of mine.

Some days my body needs a little more rest  in order to operate effectively – and that doesn’t mean just the time I have allotted for sleep.

Life is a cycle.  We ebb and flow with the moon, with the seasons, with the universe so nothing is a constant equation that should work perfectly for us every day.  It all fluctuates.  When you can embrace that mentality, and listen and ask your body what it is it wants – life seems to move fluidly rather than forced resulting with jagged edges.

So then the question becomes what do you do to rest?  Do you read a book, take a nap, watch gossip girl (guilty!), play music, lie down in the park, take a walk in nature, turn off your phone for the day, leave your email for Monday instead of tending to it on Sunday, meet with friends, etc?

It’s nice to have some go to options to unwind and slow down – so you know what to do when you need to take a break.  Then you will find you will come back to your work energized and clear – able to slice through anything.

Go ahead get your rest on  – and bask in it’s potent effects.

Rest

Wrapping it up with ways to take care of yourself with our final thought…

Thought #5 – Rest

This is one I can definitely work on, and add more to my life.  Like schedule it in with pen.  Prioritize rest.  Because without rest – creativity is bleak, giving is forced, and one can become a slave to the thoughts that arise.

I like to pile things up, I like to be busy, I like to always be on the go.  It is kind of like my default setting.  I feel useful this way, but I also get burnt out, agitated, and exhausted if I don’t have enough rest sprinkled into the busy and hectic days.  I’m ready for that to change.

photo-38Naps used to occur more frequently, but these days it seems the only way that happens is if I get a seat on the subway (which is becoming quite rare).  Sometimes I drop into legs up the wall in the middle of the day, and watch really bad TV shows which is REALLY nourishing in a guilty pleasure kind of way.  The important thing is I end up feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever is next.

Luckily I have a two week break effective immediately!  I will be using it to hit the mountain with my man and see my dear, dear friend in Mexico City.  Thrilled for this scheduled break.  I welcome it with open and slightly fatigued arms.  Excited to see what ideas and perspective arrives in the spacious days ahead.
